I was born in Paninggahan. Paninggahan is one of villages in Solok
District, West Sumatera. It is located near Singkarak Lake and surrounded by
Bukit Barisan. It has many farms and hills. Paninggahan is divided into six
regions: Subarang, Parumahan, Koto Baru-Tambak, Kampung Tangah Gando, and Ganting Padang Palak. Geographically, this village is hilly with
fertile soil so that the majority of the villagers live on agriculture. They
plant rice, onions, chilies, corns, tomatoes, any vegetables, spices, and fruits. Furthermore, there is a fountain-head from the mountain range. It is called
Palo Aia. I used to swim there with my friend when I was a kid. It was really
fun. Besides, the fountain-head is also used for other activities by the
villagers such as bathing place, drinking water source, and watering farms.
However, there is a bad side of my village although it has beautiful view and
fresh air. The road is very broken with many holes there so we have to ride or
drive carefully. The broken road is caused by the mine cars of PT Tanakay or
Tanah Kayo, a pebble-stone mine factory, which always pass the road. The mine
cars should not pass the road used by the villagers. The road needs to be
repaired soon and it is important to build a special road for the mine cars.
Next, the road is also dusty because of the mine cars. As a result, the
villagers need to water the road everyday in order to reduce the dust. Otherwise, the villagers will suffer from cough, respiratory infection,
sore-eyes, and many others. In addition, the dust will inhibit plants growth
and also damage and discolour vehicles. Paninggahan is actually a beautiful
village with fresh air but it has a little bad side which is the broken road.
